Stay up to date on what is happening in Washington State regarding Colon Hydrotherapy.

As of February 11, 2008:

The DOH is still holding its draft position from the Sunrise Review. Their position is that Colon Hydrotherapy is the practice of medicine and only doctors that are trained can perform it.

The draft position (posted on December 19, 2007) is not law; however, it puts the DOH in a position to potentially shut down the colon hydrotherapy industry.

Residents of the State of Washington were only given until January 4th to offer rebuttals to the DOH on this position.  Through Legislator support the deadline was extended to January 21, 2008 for rebuttals. Between late December and January 21st, WAACH was able to hire a lobbyist, Charlie Brown, and solicit many letters and calls from individuals, colon hydrotherapists and doctors. The outpour of communication to the DOH, Legislature and the Governor's office had a strong impact. This hard work from everyone saved the industry from being shut down in December.

From what we have heard, we have until the next Legislative session to really turn this around. The DOH has been kind enough to offer a verbal temporary reprieve till next session. This means that come next session we better have done our homework.  The industry is still under a HIGH RISK ALERT.  We are just at the beginning of a long road to securing and stabilizing this profession and industry.

It is imperative that we do the following before next session:

1) Get every colon hydrotherapists and colon hydrotherapy business in WA State signed up as a member of WAACH as the definitive unifying association for Colon Hydrotherapy in WA State,

ATTENTION MEDICAL DOCTORS

2) get every MD we know to write letters / call the DOH and Mary Selecky (Secretary of Health), as well as their district legislators to let them know that

a) Colon hydrotherapy is not the practice of medicine,

b) the doctors do not want to perform the service or own it in their scope of practice,

c) colon hydrotherapy should not be limited to only doctors performing it, and

d) from their experience anyone with the right training should be able to perform colon hydrotherapy.

Email your letters to and
your email will go to Mary Selecky with a copy to WAACH.
- NO FORM LETTERS -

Mary Selecky may be called at (360) 236-4030.

3) Finish raising the $36,000 for the 1 year contract for the lobbyist.

We need help with contacting colon hydrotherapists and doctors in WA State. We need help getting more members. We need help raising more money (the total goal is $74,000 for two years of lobbying). We need help with getting the word out to everyone about what is going on. This is not just about Colon Hydrotherapy. This is about keeping natural wellness services alive and providing a welcoming environment for more therapists and therapies to make their home in WA State. This is about setting the right example for the other states in the USA.

Please help by donating time, money and hard work. If you do would like to help and don't know what to do please pick up a phone book and start calling every colon hydrotherapist you know to get involved. Ask every WA State Colon Hydrotherapist to join WAACH. Call around to every MD you know to get them to send in their letters, it doesn't matter what state they live in (WA State MDs have more influence, though). Please make sure they email a copy of their letters to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Colon Hydrotherapists from around the country can support this effort by reaching out to doctors they know and donating money.

Thank you from all of us at WAACH,

Tim, Rebecca & Kristi - Founders
